Officers of Chongqin Customs District said they had seized 3 zebra skins which were illegally brought in by an inward passenger a few days ago.

On the afternoon of January 21, customs officers at Jiangbei Airport found anomalies in the x-ray image of a passenger’s luggage, when exercising control over an inward flight. On opening the passenger’s suitcase, customs officers saw 3 coats of a large animal which were later confirmed by the passenger as zebra skins. The passenger also confessed that he did not have the entry license for the animal products.

Zebra is an endangered species listed under the Appendices I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Zebra and its products, which are subject to strict state control, are prohibited to be brought in and out of the territory by individuals.

The products had been detained and the investigation was continuing, said customs officers
