To mark the start of the New Year, another big dog fighting event was held in Jishan, Shanxi Province. Chinese animal advocates have protested and called to write to officials at provincial level. Dog fighting is taking place throughout China and unfortunately still legal.

Please consider that the mob phenomenon of dog fighting is getting worse all over districts and counties in Shanxi province. These activities, which concealed gambling bet and violence causing, is in contrary to modern civilization. Shanxi Jishan repeatedly held several dog fighting activities annually, those poor dogs were bitten and bleeding with open wound. To abuse animal for fun not just poisoned public physical and mental health, also violate the spirit of Central to advocate civilization and harmonious society. Animal abuses reflect acts of violence catharsis and highly relate to crime activities. This open, public acts of violence, led to indifference of cruelty of generation of people who are imperceptibly influenced by what one constantly sees and hears . Especially it is incentive of bringing up youth crime tendencies. It has become the factors of social insecurity and moral collapse that cannot be ignored. We strongly appeal for the abolition of Shanxi brutal bloody dog fight activities, require the Office of the State Council put legislation against cruelty to animals on the agenda as soon as possible. 山西稷山每年都要举办好多次斗狗活动，最终那些可怜的狗狗都被咬得皮开肉绽、浑身淌血！以虐待动物取乐的行为，不仅仅是在荼毒公众身心健康，违背中央倡导文明和谐社会的精神，而且虐待动物是一种宣泄暴力的行为体现，与犯罪活动有密切关系，这种公开施暴的行为，导致耳闻目染的一代人残忍冷漠，尤其是培养青少年犯罪倾向的诱因，已经成为社会不安全，道德溃败的不可忽视的因素。我们强烈呼籲取缔山西斗狗野蛮血腥活动，更提请国务院法制办将反虐待动物立法尽速提到议事日程，保护社会安全，人民身心健康安全，尽速制止罪恶继续滋生膨胀，消除社会不安全隐患，扫除这一中国现代文明社会进程的障碍。
