We celebrated Weixian County, China for becoming the first county in the whole country to adopt a full humane animal control program.
This is a great news about, the first local government law in China announced to forbidden sale the dog meat in Weixian County
We have learnt that Weixian County implements humane animal control, as Ms. Qin, the director of Beijing’s Capital Animal Welfare Association is in our group. And She published the message announcing the program being launched at the beginning of this month. We’re very inspired by this good message, as we see it as a good exploration for a solution to change the depressed situation of dog abusing in present China. It is especially exciting to know that the program which is to implemented in Weixian includes the Prohibition of dog meat market. The anti-cruelty regulation is also mentioned in the regulation. It is a brand new daring attempts and breakthroughs in the field of companion animal protection in the villages, which dominants the majority of China society, and which is the resource of most dogs that being killed in the market, as most of the dogs in households in the village are stolen by the gangs of this bloody business of dog meat industry in China.
According to Ms. Qin of Capital Animal Welfare, this result owes to several parties including HSI, CAW (Capital Animal Welfare), Act Asia, and most importantly, to the head of the county, Mr. Duan. “He is a really good leader who is rare to see in China nowadays” Said Qin. Mr. Duan sees it as a chance for Weixian to enhance its “softpower” (the mentality and culture which build up the image of a place) , therefore he has made a contribution to the program.
This might take a lot of money and a considerable time to see what will come out. We hope that the program can be implemented successfully and ultimately become a real change in dog’s protection in China.
As to the dogs’ rescuing, we are still in the fighting. It deems to be a long struggling, though there are very brave and dedicated animal activists to stop the trucks. However the government still take no notice of the voice from people asking for the end of this extreme cruelty on companion animals. And they take no notice to our request for laws to protect animal from human cruelty.
Thank you very much for helping us.
